Waiting for the ferry
Picture slightly edited to hide personal information.
Water!
First nice view of the day, back towards the harbour.
Starting to move
The engines were definitely giving enough smoke that I wondered how healthy the air was.
Rising sun
Looking back towards the rising sun, it seems rather an afternoon than morning.
Boats on the lake
Quite a few boats already on the lake.
Blue water
Looking away from the sun, the haze is still present but the water is much more blue.
Approaching the other shore
Much more green on this side :)
Small panorama near landing
Panorama tools don't play nice with waves...
Fog, part 1
Getting near the shore, the fog is quite strong, drowning out the blue.
Hidden cove #1
Not very hidden, but only a couple was present. The dead tree trunks gave it a surreal atmosphere.
Hidden cove #2
In the distance, a singular rock supports quite a number of trees.
Hidden cove #3
Not so good panorama, but it shows the entirety of the cove.
Neah Bay
View towards the Neah Bay port; sunny, but still some haze present.
Neah Bay blue waters
Zooming in towards the water shows a perfect blue, in spite of the fog clouds on the horizon.
Cape Flattery trail #1
The trail starts very nice and sunny...
Cape Flattery trail #2
The sun shining down through the trees.
Cape Flattery trail #3
The trail was quite nicely prepared, very easy to walk along.
Cape Flattery trail #4
Wait, fog again? Where did it come from?
Cape Flattery viewpoint #1
First view on Cape flattry. Breathtaking, despite the fog.
Cape Flattery viewpoint #2
Another viewpoint, another view. Trees, fog, rocks, caves and the ocean.
This slope descents nicely towards the ocean. Not quite so on the other side...
Nature #1
It seems thee birds had no issue with the cold, or the quite abrupt rock face.
Fog and tree
The fog was not constant; some times, it was clearing a bit, allowing one to see further.
Nature #2
Not only the birds, but also trees seem to have no issue growing up in places inaccessible (for us).
Nature #3
Down below, some birds have found a rock to congregate on, while the waves were making a terrible noise crashing on the rocks.
More caves
The caves below the cliff top were very interesting; it was explained that they're temporary, and will probably collapse in a few hundred years.
Birds, rocks, waves
It was quite cold up top (for an adult human); I was wondering how cold was it for these small birds?
Foggy islands
Fog and more fog
This time, the fog almost entirely blocked the view; and given the amount of rocks, one has to wonder how scary would it be to be in a boat near this shore, in fog...
Caves, caves
In the other direction, more caves, although this is the not so abrupt side, so they look a bit different.
Erosion
The erosion of this sediment layer shows, I think, how the caves form.
Birds
These birds seemed to behave as it was the nicest day; the people near me, definitely not so :)
Leaving Cape Flattery
Last view on the cape, wishing it was a sunny day with a blue sky and a blue ocean...
Cape Flattery trail #5
On the way back, the trail is still through fog, although not as dense...
Cape Flattery trail #6
Finally the sun shines again through the canopy.
Cape Flattery Road
I didn't stop on the way to the cape, but coming back there were a few parking spots. The view was again surreal, with the fog hiding the human presence.
Sekiu, Front Street
On the way back from Neah Bay, a small town with sunny waters; looked like and excellent spot to stop and relax; too bad I was in a hurry!
Ruby Beach surprise
Fog again! Every time I get near the ocean, fog!
A lone dinghy
Well, not quite lone, but the framing makes it look so. The vegetation right on the ocean shore was surprisingly lush.
Driftwood
Some of it is arranged by human, giving a interesting mix of nature randomness and human planning.
Walking on the beach
This couple seems very lonely and lost in thoughts, but again it is the framing that makes it look so - there were quite a few people on the beach.
People in the fog
It's interesting to take such a snapshot that freezes action: people walking, people taking pictures, people taking climbing the rocks... No issue with the weather.
Last look at the beach
Islands, rocks, trees, people, all fading away in the fog. More interesting than just a sunny day picture!
Forest trail
Going towards some "biggest XXX tree" - nice path!
Biggest Spruce Tree
... said the description. From here, doesn't look _too_ big...
OK, it is big!
But getting closer to it finally gives you a better feeling of the size of its trunk! Too bad the picture lacks any comparison factor.
Sunny afternoon
At least here the sun is not hiding.
Quiet small town
Quinault - very quiet, very peaceful, and the weather was just perfect.
Quinault Lake shore
Again, the vegetation - right on the lake shore - is surprising. I start to believe the "rain forest" part...
